Pick the practical location
Observe light at the kitchen-side porch before choosing herbs. Keep containers off the door swing and away from a spot where runoff would collect.
Start with one or two
Choose herbs you already cook with and follow their individual light and watering labels. Combining plants with very different water needs in one pot makes the routine harder.
Harvest a little, often
Snip modest amounts from healthy growth and check the soil each time. If a plant is struggling, adjust light and watering before buying a replacement.
Can several herbs share one pot?
Only if their light, space and watering needs are compatible; separate pots make changes easier.
